Privacy Policy

OC Rewards ("we", "us") operates the OC Rewards mobile app and the website oc-rewards.com. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the app, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information. To create an account you give us your email address. We send a one-time sign-in code to that address; we do not store passwords. You may also add your name and your ZIP code.
Loyalty activity. When you tap an NFC card at a participating business, we record the visit (business, location, date and time) to add a stamp to your loyalty card and to unlock and redeem rewards. We also record the coupons you save or redeem and the reviews you write.
Location. With your permission, the app uses your device's location while you are using it to show nearby businesses. We do not collect location in the background. If you deny the permission, the app uses your ZIP code or a default area in Orange County, CA. Your precise location is used on your device for the search and is not stored on our servers.
Leaderboard. If you give us your ZIP code, your first name, the initial of your last name and your number of visits this week are shown to other customers in the same ZIP code on a weekly leaderboard. You can opt out at any time from Profile.
Device and usage data. Our servers automatically log basic technical data (IP address, app version, device type, request timestamps) to keep the service secure and working.
We do not collect payment information, contacts, photos, or advertising identifiers, and we do not use the app for advertising or tracking across other apps and websites.
How we use information
- To operate your account, loyalty cards, stamps, rewards, coupons and reviews.
- To show you businesses, offers and rewards near you.
- To run the weekly leaderboard and your progress, levels and achievements.
- To keep the service secure, prevent fraud (for example duplicate stamps) and fix problems.
- To contact you about your account or the service.
Sharing
Participating businesses can see loyalty activity related to their own business (visits, stamps, rewards and coupons used) and the reviews you post about them. They do not receive your email address or your activity at other businesses.
We use service providers that process data on our behalf: Microsoft Azure (hosting and database, United States) and Azure Communication Services (sign-in emails), and Expo (delivery of app updates). We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and the service.
Retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account in the app; this permanently removes your account, loyalty cards, stamps, rewards, coupons and reviews from our systems, except for records we must keep for legal or security reasons for a limited time.
Your choices and rights
- Location: change the permission at any time in your device settings.
- Leaderboard: opt out from Profile.
- Access, correction, deletion: edit your name and ZIP code in the app, delete your account in the app, or email us (below) to exercise your rights, including those under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA, and we do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Children
OC Rewards is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Sign-in codes expire after a short time, data is encrypted in transit, and access to our systems is restricted to staff who need it to operate the service.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
